Performance Test Analysis on BMS-Series Linear Motor Modules from Domestic Manufacturer Smartwin Intelligent Equipment

In recent years, semiconductor inspection equipment, laser-processing machinery and multi-station automated assembly lines have kept upgrading. Many equipment manufacturers are troubled by long-standing defects of ball-screw-driven modules when developing moving stations with travel over 2 meters.

Shortcomings of Conventional Transmission Structures Call for Domestic Long-Travel Linear Slide Solutions

As semiconductor inspection devices, laser processing machines and multi-station automated production lines continuously evolve, equipment builders frequently encounter inherent drawbacks of ball-screw modules for moving axes requiring over 1500 mm effective travel. At high operating speeds, ball screws are prone to bending deformation, which brings increased transmission backlash. Friction of sliders generates dust particles, while excessive vibration and noise occur during operation. Although belt-driven modules can realize ultra-long travel, their repeat positioning accuracy fails to meet requirements for precision machining, making them unfit for demanding processes such as photovoltaic inspection and PCB defect detection. Smartwin Intelligent Equipment, a local manufacturer with years-long expertise in direct-drive component manufacturing, has accumulated rich experience in custom projects for automation OEMs and fully understands practical pain-points of long-travel linear slides. Against this background, the company has developed the LMS-BMS semi-enclosed linear motor module. Its hardware specifications fit most working conditions on the market. The LMS version offers a maximum standard travel of 2890 mm, peak speed up to 5 m/s, and continuous thrust ranging from 48N to 193 N, equipped with two heavy-duty size-15 linear guide rails. It delivers smooth motion for both light-load vision slides and moving platforms carrying heavy tooling, supplying reliable domestic direct-drive for components for domestic equipment manufacturers.

Semi-Enclosed Structure Balances Dust-proof Performance and Heat Dissipation, Optimizing Routine Maintenance from Practical Production Perspective

Linear motor modules available on the market mainly fall into two categories: open-type and fully-enclosed, both of which have obvious drawbacks. Open-type modules provide zero protection; metal chips, moisture and dust from the workshop directly adhere to the surface of guide rails and movers. After several months of operation, slider jamming may occur. While fully-enclosed models deliver sound protection, their sealed housings impair heat dissipation. Under longtime high-speed reciprocating motion, heat accumulation inside the motor easily leads to accuracy drift.Based on real-world working conditions from numerous customers’ workshops, the R&D team of Smartwin Intelligent Equipment finalized the semi-enclosed housing solution. The housing blocks most dust and corrosive mist to reduce component wear, meanwhile reserved heatdissipation gaps prevent heat build-up during prolonged motor operation. Considering that factory production lines usually run around-the-clock, equipment downtime for maintenance will directly cut production capacity. The BMS module is equipped with an external centralized grease-fitting structure. For regular guiderail lubrication maintenance, there is no need to disassemble the whole module housing. Lubricant can be injected directly through external grease nipples, saving substantial time for disassembly, reassembly and commissioning. Noisereduction and low-dust optimization are completed during factory pre-commissioning. It generates little dust caused by friction and low operating noise, fully complying with environmental standards for lithium-ion battery dust-free workshops and optical inspection stations.

Customization Available on Demand: Smartwin Intelligent Equipment Delivers Application-Oriented Solutions for Diverse Industries

BMS series linear motor modules have been deployed in numerous automated production lines, ranging from 3C assembly equipment and circuit-board inspection machinery to silicon-wafer sorting devices and cell-stacking tooling. With an ultra-long travel up to 5788 mm, it enables the construction of multi-station production lines. Its moving speed of 5 m/s shortens equipment cycle time. The broad thrust range supports integration of high-definition camera modules as well as heavy-weight fixtures and jigs. As an original manufacturer, Smartwin Intelligent Equipment avoids one-size-fits-all standard configurations. Our technical engineers adjust module parameters according to customers’ equipment inner space, acceleration requirements and special dust-protection demands. The matching encoders and communication interfaces are compatible with mainstream industrial buses, enabling seamless connection to customers’ existing control systems. At present, many equipment enterprises are phasing out highpriced imported linear modules in favor of reliable domestic component suppliers. Leveraging the comprehensive strengths of BMS modules — easy maintenance, high-speed stability and lowdust performance — Smartwin helps downstream equipment manufacturers cut component procurement and after-sales maintenance costs, and facilitates steady development of the domestic automation equipment industry.
